FAA Medical Certificate
In order to begin Flight Training you must hold at least a Third Class Medical Certificate. It is also a requirement to apply for our flight scholarships.
To acquire this certificate, you will take what is basically a physical exam with an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME). The Examiner will check many of the basics such as vision hearing, reflexes, vital signs, and go over you medical history. Most medical certificate applicants, despite their medical history are qualified, but there are certain conditions that are automatically disqualifying.
To learn more about this process, visit the FAA website. It has step-by-step instructions including the “Know Before You Go AME Guide for Pilots” We have listed several AMEs in the Madison-area that can issue you a Medical Certificate. We recommend you contact one of these providers and discuss with them briefly your medical history before beginning this process.
